WIND RIVER RESERVATIONMay 31 – June 5, 2010 6 Days $698.00 We are invited to share in this rare opportunity to be guests of the Shoshone and Arapaho people who share these lands. We will be on the actual reservation so some surfaces may be uneven and some areas we will have some walking to do. (avg. 3 blocks) Day 1: Today we will make our way to Fort Collins, CO where we will meet up with some of our traveling friends from this area. Overnight will be in Ft. Collins. Day 2: The scenery is barren, rugged, yet beautiful as we head north into Wyoming. We will arrive at the Wind River Reservation in Riverton, WYhome for the next 3 nights. Day 3:Today we spend the day with our Native American guide discovering the Wind River Reservation. We will get acquainted with both the Arapaho and Shoshone people who live here. Stops include the St. Stephen’s Mission & School, Shoshone Cultural Center, Sacajawea’s grave, Chief Washakie’s grave, and the Arapaho Museum. We will also visit the Sinks Canyon State Park, keeping our eye out for wildlife and tour nearby Lander. Dinner will be included tonight along with a presentation of the Northern Arapaho Experience. Enjoy this entertaining glimpse into another culture. Day 4: A local guide joins us for the day as we enjoy a look at this area from another perspective, the immigrants and settlers. We will visit South Pass. Between 1840 and 1860, over 300,000 travelers crossed the Continental Divide here en route to a new life. We will step back in time to the gold rush days in South Pass City, once a boomtown, now an outdoor living history museum. We will tour the Willie Handcart Site and learn the story of the Mormon settlers and their trek west. Tonight we will enjoy an included dinner of prime rib/lobster dinner. A tribal elder will join us sharing further insight into his culture and his world. Day 5: We say goodbye to the reservation and head for Casper. At the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center we can re-live the story of the pioneers. On into Ft. Collins for our overnight. Day 6: Today we say goodbye to our Colorado group and return to Yoder.
